Interior Architecture
Interior design begins with the architecture of the space. We evaluate distribution, proportion and circulation, then reconfigure non-structural elements where needed to create clearer zoning, stronger flow and a plan aligned with how the home will be lived in.
Fixed Elements & Materiality
Once the spatial framework is resolved, architectural and decorative finishes establish the material language of the home. Kitchens, bathrooms, utility spaces and tailored built-ins are designed to define zones, create focal points and support long-term functionality as one integrated environment.
Furniture, Art & Objects
Furniture, decorative lighting, fixtures, art and objects are selected with the same rigor as the architectural framework. Through trusted makers, suppliers and design galleries, each piece is sourced or designed to build character while protecting the investment through enduring quality and craftsmanship.

Project Direction & Installation
The concept is carried from documentation into reality through structured project leadership. Consultants, contractors, suppliers and timelines are coordinated within one process, while execution reviews, styling and final installation protect design continuity, technical accuracy and the client’s investment.

Before we begin
How do we get started with Martēn Design?
Our process begins with an exploratory call to discuss your property, priorities, and whether the studio is the right fit. From there, we move through three steps:
- Onboarding form & initial site visit — We gather your brief and visit the property to understand its context, potential, and requirements. The initial visit is a paid service, with the fee quoted based on the property’s location.
- Project alignment — Following the visit, we discuss what the project calls for and refine its priorities, scope, and investment direction together.
- Proposal & quote — Based on that understanding, we prepare a tailored scope of services and fee proposal.
When should we bring Martēn Design into the project?
Ideally, before the layout and major design decisions are finalized. Whether you’re building or renovating, involving us early allows us to contribute to the plans and consider how every part of the home will work together. Our approach is best suited to projects where we can shape both the space and its furnishings.
How does Martēn Design work with other professionals?
We lead the interiors and work closely with the architects, engineers, contractors, specialists, and suppliers involved in your project. We clarify roles and responsibilities early and coordinate decisions as the work progresses, keeping everyone aligned with the design while respecting each professional’s expertise.
Can we work together if we live outside Costa Rica?
Yes. We handle the day-to-day details locally and adapt communication and approvals to your availability and how involved you’d like to be. We have managed entire projects for clients living abroad, including accepting the property handover from the developer on their behalf and getting the home ready for personal use or rental.
How are design fees determined?
Our fees reflect the project’s scope, complexity, and the services required throughout design and execution. The proposal we prepare for you outlines the services, deliverables, and fees, so you know what to expect before committing.
