About Martēn Editions
Martēn Editions is the studio’s ongoing exploration of collectible objects—pieces where material, memory and craft come together. Developed in collaboration with skilled makers, each edition extends Martēn Design’s interior practice into a limited, numbered object.
A story carried forward.
Travesía honors Majo Martén’s maternal grandmother, Olhedyis, and the journeys they experienced together through storytelling. Whenever Olhedyis returned from traveling, she recounted what she had seen with such vivid detail that Majo could picture each place, encounter and discovery as if she had been there herself.
Her final journey took her to China—a destination that quietly informs the folding screen’s relationship to Eastern traditions. Rather than reproducing a familiar form, Travesía transforms that reference into an architectural object shaped by personal memory and Martēn Design’s own visual language.
The screen becomes both a functional piece and a vessel for remembrance: intimate in origin, monumental in scale and continually reinterpreted as its panels shift, unfold and define new relationships within a space.
Materiality
What has traveled is made to travel again.
Reclaimed fishing-boat wood carries the marks of journeys already made. Eucalyptus gives the screen its structure, while gold leaf draws a new graphic language across its surface. Together, the materials preserve memory through transformation—allowing both matter and legacy to continue forward.
Natural variations in color, grain, texture and markings make every piece unique within the edition.
